The Art of Living Matrimony

Be safe online

Why Safe Matrimony?

Today, a large number of people use online matrimony services to search for a life partner, and millions have found success through such platforms.

However, there have been a few instances reported in the media where fraudsters have attempted to cheat people on online matrimony sites. Safe Matrimony is our initiative to promote responsible behaviour and help users stay protected while searching for a partner online.

1. Never Ever Give Money to Anyone

Anybody requesting money through the platform should be treated with extreme caution and is likely a fraudster. Common tactics include posing as a separated, divorced or foreign-based individual targeting men and women in the 30 to 40 age group, divorcees, or widowers. They often:

  • Avoid video calls or in-person meetings.
  • Use fake identities or stolen photos.
  • Use emotional manipulation through sweet talk and false promises.

Common fraudulent stories include:

  • being stuck at the airport
  • lost credit cards and wallet
  • met with a sudden accident or someone is critically ill at home
  • In some cases, they claim they want to send you money to settle down in India, and later, you may receive calls claiming the money is stuck at customs and requires payment to be released.

Fraudsters usually ask for single transfer of a large sums. Some may initially request small amounts and later follow up with demands for larger sums.

We strongly advise users never to transfer or share money with anyone met through the platform, under any circumstance.

2. NO Physical Relationship Before Marriage

Engaging in a physical relationship before marriage can place you at significant emotional, social, or legal risk. Avoid private or isolated meetings. Prefer meeting in public places or in the presence of trusted family members or friends. Always prioritise your personal safety.

3. Check Background Details Before Committing to Marriage

A commitment to marriage should only be made:

  • After face to face meetings, especially
  • After meeting prospective groom or bride's family and relatives.
  • After verifying workplace and job credentials.
  • After conducting personal reference checks.
  • By reviewing their online/social media presence (if any)

Be cautious if someone:

  • Avoids meeting in person.
  • Refuses to share work or family details.
  • Rushes the process or is evasive about important questions.

Avoid further communication if red flags arise, and report any suspicious behaviour to us immediately. Do not commit to marriage or continue interacting with such individuals.
